Dr. Healy's Medical Mission Trips
Dr. Michael Healy, a full-time Pediatrician at Naval Health Clinic Hawaii-Makalapa, is celebrating his 20th year anniversary of conducting annual medical missions. Dr. Healy has done missions in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand.
Dr. Healy and his wife have managed to make an annual mission each year, with the exception of 2001. They have completed 10 years of projects in Myanmar, situated in Southeast Asia. During those missions, Dr. Healy and his team have conducted over 1,000 major surgeries and treated more than 10,000 patients.
The Aloha Medical Mission (AMM), is a Honolulu based 501c3 foundation founded in 1983 and since this time has sent over 4,600 volunteers on 142 missions to 16 countries. Some 272,000 patients have been treated and 21,500 surgeries performed, all without charge. The volunteers pay their own expenses and work without compensation during the two week mission trip.
The AMM Team also operates a hand prothesis donation program in Myanmar and Philippines with the help of the Ellen Meadows Foundation of California.
