Spectrum Celebrates the Retirement of Dr. Takao, Regional Medical Director

April 1, 2014 - After 20 dedicated years of service with Spectrum, Richard Takao, M.D. retired on April 1, 2014. Spectrum held a celebration in his honor on March 12th at the corporate office in St. Louis.

In December 1993, Dr. Takao began practicing with Spectrum as a Pediatrician at Fort Sam Houston. He was promoted to Regional Medical Director in the summer of 1995. In this role, he took on the responsibility of working with all of Spectrum's current providers as well as provider candidates.

Prior to joining Spectrum, Dr. Takao was a Colonel in the Army Medical Corps and worked clinically in the Military Health Sector as a contract physician for more than 15 years following his departure from active duty. Dr. Takao had a distinguished career in the Army Medical Corps culminating in his final position as Chair, Pediatrics Department, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Dr. Takao's retirement plans consist of him becoming more involved in his community and spending time with friends and family. He also plans on playing golf and trying a few new hobbies. Even though he has officially retired, Dr. Takao will continue to provide support with Spectrum as needed.
